Preparing for a Photo Day at your child's daycare or preschool can be stressful, and you may not know what to expect or how to prepare. Below, you'll find the whole process, start-to-finish, for a Photo Day with Genesis Photography.
1. Register your Child
Your center will pass out information about when the Photo Day/s will be, along with information on how to sign up. All children must be pre-registered in order to have their individual photos taken. This lets us know that you want your child's photos taken, and that you give your permission. Registration is online, only takes a couple minutes, and is free!
2. Figure out What to Wear
It's time to comb through your child's closet or go shopping for something new! Make sure you choose their outfit and try on the clothes before the morning of Photo Day to avoid any surprises or added stress. If you'd like some advice on that perfect photo outfit, please read this blog article.
We typically take photos between 8:30-11:30 am, which helps us avoid the messy post-lunch or post-nap clothes. However, if you're concerned about clothes getting dirty and your center will allow it, you may want to pack the photo clothes in a bag and have the center change your child shortly before their pictures.
3. Prepare your Child
If you child is old enough to understand, you can prepare them for what to expect the night before Photo Day. Let them know that a nice photographer will be taking their photos outside. If you've got 2 children who attend the center, let the older one know that they'll need to be a "big helper" with their younger sibling.
And if you're not against bribery, maybe promise them a little prize or snack if they listen well and smile pretty. :)
4. It's Photo Day!
On Photo Day, we'll spend about 5 minutes outside with each child during the morning, capturing both posed and playful photos. For infants, we'll have a blanket and a couple simple props so they can lay, sit, or stand.
For siblings, we'll also capture some photos of them together for those adorable interactions.
If a child isn't cooperating, we may ask that their teacher give them a break and bring them back a little later.
5. View & Order your Child's Photos
Within 1 week of the last day at your center, we'll send out an email and text message, letting you know that your child's photos are ready to view. Choose your favorite photos and order them directly from the gallery.
You'll have 3 weeks to order photos, and if you order within the first 10 days, any prints will be delivered to your child's center for free.
We have many options for photos, including individual products, digital packages, and packages with a mix of digitals and prints. Prices start at just $15.
6. Get & Share your Photos!
If you order digital images, those will be delivered in an online gallery via email. Please download those to at least 2 locations as soon as possible. If you order prints, those will be delivered to the center or shipped directly to you. For prints delivered to the center, expect those to arrive within 10 days of the ordering deadline. (We're often faster than that, however.)
Now, it's time to share those beautiful photos with family and friends! Send some to Grandparents, post them on social media, and hang them on your wall. Soak up those adorable faces, because they won't look the same ever again. <3
If you have any questions throughout the process, please don't hesitate to reach out! We're not some huge national corporation. We're real people, we're local, and we're happy to help!
