Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule a session?
To schedule a session, fill out our session inquiry form or call or email us. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible to answer any questions you have and schedule your session!

Where do you take photos?
For studio photos, the Genesis Photography studio is located in Cortland, Nebraska, which is 15 miles south of Lincoln. For outdoor photos, there are many locations in the Lincoln area that we can use. Travelling more than 30 miles outside of Lincoln is also a possibility, depending on the session.

What do we need to bring to our session?
That list is different for each type of session. You’ll be provided with a session guide once you book your session, but here’s a quick rundown:
Newborn sessions: the typical “diaper bag” essentials and a change of clothes for baby’s accidents 😊
Family & Child sessions: snacks and drinks, 2-3 outfits, and “diaper bag” essentials (if applicable)
Maternity sessions: 1-2 outfits

How long will it take to get our photos?
You can expect your photos ready to view within 7-14 days after your session. Once ordered, wall art takes between 7-21 days to be delivered. Digital images will be touched up and delivered within 7 days of your order.

How soon should I schedule our Newborn session?
I recommended that you reach out to me at the beginning of your 2nd trimester. Although we won’t schedule the exact date for the session then, we’ll collect the session fee and go over any questions you may have. The session date is typically set up when you’re roughly 1 month from your due date. This date can always be moved if Baby decides to come early or late.

Do you have outfits, wraps, and props for our Newborn session?
Yes! Over the years, the studio has amassed quite the collection of newborn photography props. With over 100 swaddles, over 100 headbands & hats, and many outfits and props, you won’t be short on options for your session. 😊

Can we bring our own outfits and props for our Newborn session?
You are always welcome to bring personal items for the photos, however I can’t guarantee they’ll all be used during the session. Some items don’t work for professional photos because of fit, size, or safety issues, but I try my best to incorporate the items that are important to you!

When is the right time to take Maternity photos?
28-33 weeks is generally the best time to take maternity photos. We want you to be far enough along that you have that beautiful baby bump, but also not too far that you’re uncomfortable or restricted. If you’re having twins, that timeline may be moved up.

How is a Luxury Maternity session different from a standard one?
Luxury maternity sessions differ in several aspects:
1. A designer gown of your choice is included in Luxury sessions. (A 2nd gown is an optional addition.)
2. Luxury sessions are longer. We typically have 60 minutes of shooting time, but the entire session often lasts around 90 minutes with wardrobe and location changes.
3. We can use up to 2 locations for Luxury sessions.
4. You have the option of adding hair and makeup to your Luxury session.
5. The posing and photography style is different in Luxury sessions. We are going for a more “high-fashion” look, so the posing and backdrops are often more dramatic.
6. Both types of sessions can incorporate your spouse and other children, however, keep in mind that the dress code of the other participants should match your own. So for Luxury sessions, we recommend formal attire for everyone involved.

How do we order our photos afterwards?
Mini Sessions and Fresh 48 sessions will receive an online viewing gallery 7-14 days after their session. For all other sessions, you have the option of an online viewing gallery or an in-person ordering appointment. The in-person appointment can be done at a local coffee shop, the studio, or your home.

With the online gallery, you can choose your products and order directly online. You’ll have 1 week to purchase your products. If there are any product clarifications I need from you, I’ll follow up via email or phone.

With the in-person appointment, you’ll be able to touch and see all the different products we offer and ask any questions you may have. We’ll place your order during that appointment.
